Make your own DIY hair mask with these 4 simple ingredients
To get the best out of your curls, it is a must to give your hair some extra attention and love on a regular basis. You can do this by treating yourself to a lovely Curly Hair Mask.
This easy-to-whip-up mask contains ingredients that we all have at home. It not only nourishes your beautiful head of hair but also ensures less frizz and more shine! As curly hair regains its shine and soft feel, you will feel a lot more comfortable too.
What is making a DIY hair mask good for?
A homemade hair mask will keep your curls strong and healthy. A hair mask also takes care of dull or dry hair. Especially girls who regularly style their hair with a hairdryer or straightener. Or curlies who regularly dye their curls.
A hair mask brings back the natural shine and texture that may have been lost due to heat styling and harmful external influences.
It is therefore recommended to make a hair mask regularly to prevent dry hair, frizzy locks, split ends or a dry scalp.
What ingredients do you need to make a DIY hair mask?
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1 banana
- 1 spoonful of olive oil
- 1 spoonful of honey
An avocado hair mask is ideal for dry hair. When combined with ripe bananas, you create your own hair mask that not only ensures healthy hair but also a healthy scalp. This is because bananas contain vitamin C and potassium.
Thanks to organic honey, you also prevent dandruff and provide moisturising care for curly hair.
Making a hair mask with our compiled step-by-step plan
Step 1: combine the ingredients
First, we are going to make the hair mask, or the organic and natural hair mask for dry hair. Mash the avocado and banana in a bowl. Then add the spoonful of honey and the spoonful of olive oil. Mix this until it comes together nicely.
Tip: use a blender! Don't have one? Don't panic; use a sieve to remove all the banana chunks from the mask. (If you find this tedious, just remember… plucking banana chunks from your curls is even less fun.)
Step 2: wash your curls
Wash your hair before shampooing. This way, the mask can be absorbed nicely. Then spread the mask from your ends to the top of your hair.
Step 3: Fix your curls
Tie your hair and wrap it in a plastic cap (e.g. cling film). For extra warmth and absorption of the mask, use our Sleeping Cap or our Curly Hair Towel.
Step 4: Leave the mask on for about 30 minutes
Let the mask on for 30 to 60 minutes and then rinse well. Then rinse well and your curls will shine again. Rinse out your curls with lukewarm warm or cold water. This will ensure that your hair cuticles close again.
Step 5: Style your curls and give them extra care
Style your hair with the Curlygirlmovement styling products and enjoy your perfect hair day!
Is the hair mask curly girl proof?
Yes, sure! This hair mask is safe to use in combination with the curly girl method. This is because you only use ingredients that come from your kitchen cupboard.
Can I also replace the ingredients?
Yes, the ingredients are easy to replace for another product. For example, you can replace the olive oil with a few tablespoons of coconut oil, a tablespoon of honey or a tablespoon of almond oil.
Coconut oil: intensely nourishes and hydrates your hair, so one tablespoon of coconut oil is enough for you.
Honey: Helps reduce dandruff and keeps the scalp free of bacteria.
Almond oil: ensures thick and healthy hair and stimulates hair growth.
