Step by Step guide to perfect curls (type 3)

We are all unique and this also applies to our curls. For that reason, we cannot use just one instruction and technique to create the same beautiful results for everyone. In this article, we will explain step by step how the products can be used and combined with your hair type and porosity.

Determining your hair porosity

Does it take a long time (2-4 hours) for your hair to dry? Is it very difficult to dye your hair a lighter color? Do you get build up easily and are products often to heavy and greasy for your hair? Then chances are that you have low porosity hair. Which means that your hair cuticles lay very flat and products have a hard time penetrating in your hair.

Does your hair, on the other hand, dry very quickly? Do you dye or use heat on your hair regularly? Does your hair soak up hair products and does it feel like you have no product at all in your hair by the end of the day? Then you probably have high porosity hair. Your hair cuticles are very open and products can escape your hair easily. Hence, why your hair can feel very dry and brittle. Follow the steps below that matches your porosity.

Low porosity

  1. Make sure your hair soaking wet when applying the products. This way you will get more defined curls.
  2. Divide your hair into a minimum of four sections, depending on the thickness of your hair. Rub the CGM styling milk between your palms and apply it from the ends upwards. Always start with your ends to avoid too much product on your roots. This will weigh your hair down.
  3. Again, divide your hair into small section and apply a good amount of CGM defining gel per section. Try to make sure each section looks smooth and all the hair lay flat. This will minimize frizz once your hair is completely dry.
  4. Flip your hair upside down and scrunch your curls. Then use a Cotton cloth (or t-shirt) to squeeze out the excess water and activate your curls.
  5. Rub a little bit of gel between your palms and with your hair still upside down, apply the defining gel and scrunch a few more times.
  6. Now you can start diffusing. Do you also want to become a master at diffusing your hair? Make sure to click HERE.

  2. Divide your hair into small sections and apply the CGM styling milk per section. Try to keep the sections as small as possible to ensure that each curl is fully covered in product. If you suffer from severe dry hair, then you can choose to apply another cream or leave-in after the CGM styling milk.
